Need a front tire for my 2005 1600 Nomad. Last year i put a Shinko 777 on the rear and like it but they don't seem to have a front (150/80/16) in that model. Can a rear tire be used on the front?

Front tires are designed to handle braking forces while rear tires are designed to handle acceleration forces. Plus the tread design is reversed front and rear to handle water better and prevent hydroplaning. If you put a rear tire on the front, you have to reverse the direction from what the arrow on the side indicates. That takes care of both issues. So you can run a rear tire on the front. However, it will probably make it harder to corner. Front tires have a different profile that make it easier to counter steer into corners. With a rear tire mounted on the front, you lose the advantage of that profile.

Thanks for the replies. I've since done more research...the 2 shops I checked with told me my size was not available. Seems they were referring only to their inventory.
