I need to replace the fork oil seals on my bike, and am intending to do this repair myself. I have read up on the procedure in the service manual as well as watched a few u-tube videos.

To disassemble the left hand fork the procedure describes the use of a special Kawi fork cylinder holder tool to unscrew the inner fork bolt...

The tool is ~$100....

Are their any DIY alternatives to buying this specialty tool ?

What have others used /done outside of biting the bullet and buying the special tool ?

Also I find it curious that both forks are not identical in construction ... And you even add slightly more oil to one than the other... Does anyone know the reason for this? Is this to counter some mismatch between left and right hand sides ?
