I was told that my Vulcan would need a initial service at 600 miles.
This includes an oil change and a 21 point inspection of all cables and bolts among other things.

Cost is about $150.

Thoughts? Is it necessary? I was told there was no other service recommended till 15K miles...

You bet the oil change will insure there's no metal in it and you need to do it for warranty purposes.

I always do the first service.....tuck that receipt away because the next service isn't till 15000 miles (valve check). I figure (generally speaking) anything that's gonna happen is gonna happen tween those two points, and, because you did your first service with the dealer....they won't hastle you over warranty work. It's a steep price for no reason other than peace of mind.....oh, and for them to get the oil filter off the first time....lol.

+1 for what Silenthill said. Have dealer do it for warranty purposes.
