exhaust options

Good mid-morning! I have a snow day from work, which can only mean one thing: I have to plan some mods for the bike! :xcited:

If you were to pick an exhaust based solely on looks, which one would you choose?

A little background, I plan on putting these hard bags on the VN2K. The exhaust is simply for the look of the pipes and the clearance. If you have ever looked at the exhaust on a 2k, it's ridiculously huge. Like two coffee can mufflers on a Honda Civic... Anyways, the pipes will clean up the lines of the bike and give me quite a bit of clearance for the bags.

I am not worried about the sound because I will be getting quiet baffles and baffle pack to quiet the exhaust to tolerable levels.

Here are the options.

Freedom Performance:

Cobra Longs:

Cobra 2 into 1:

Cobra Slashdowns:

Here is an exhaust clip of the Freedom performance with the quiet baffles: link

For reference, here are the regular baffles: link

hey,, get U some them Ground Pounders.. why else u riding that biggass motor? let em feel it in their chest coming b4 thier ears start to bleed. poncho
I have the powershots on my bike. I'm pleased with the sound. not too loud, loud enough. Not too loud that you cant spend all day on the bike. looks much better than stock...
Road Burner 3" were on mine when I got it. I like them.
Powershots came with mine. I would have gotten them with my first V2K but I like the stock exhaust sound and look. I'll stick with the Powershots to see if I like them more than stock.
Mine came with Hard Krome 3" Big Straights when I bought it used, no baffles. So deafening that I had hearing loss for 3 days and ringing for another 2 days when I rode it for 40 minutes with a full face helmet and no ear plugs.
Bought the quiestest baffles Hard Krome makes for it: Perfection.

I have heard that about the HK pipes. Did I read that you called them and they have special quiet baffles you can order but they don't advertise anywhere?
Yepper. If you search my posts, I have pics of them.
I had cobra shorties for about 6 or 7 years. Basically the same thing as the slashdowns.

In 2012 I switched to Freedom Sharp Curves.

They are the best sounding pipes for this bike.. They really are.
How's the sound (quality and levels) when cruising on the highway?
Freedom Performance is the only way to go IMO. Looks , sound, clearance for bags. Has all three.

Those are definitely growing on me.

Did I miss the answer to this question somewhere?

When cruising, the freedom's sound about the same as the cobra shorties. It's hard to REALLY know, since the sound exit's "behind" me. They have the same deep rumble. Maybe the freedom's are louder.. same pitch though.

But at idle? MANY people have said they have never heard a metric bike that sound this good. It really does sound good.

Thanks.

I see where freedom is making a combat 2 into 1 that I've never run across before.

Anyone have any experience with the combat 2 into 1?

hadn't seen that one before. It's new (which surprises me.. making NEW things for this bike..)

Looks like it would restrict bags.
Thanks.

I saw that one. It's interesting, but I cannot find anyone who has one.
I've had the Hard Krome 3" straights on it since 2005, and LOVE them. I'm going to buy the Freedoms next month just for a change of style, but the only complaint I've had concerning my HKs is that the tips began to corrode last fall, and when I tried to replace, found that they were $180 EACH. Screw that, it's the cost of a new exhaust.
