ER•20®XS High-Fidelity Earplugs

730 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Bill Braske
Does anyone have any experience with these ear plugs? http://www.etymotic.com/consumer/hearing-protection/er20xs.html

I currently use 30 dB foam plugs with modular helmet and Sena SMH10 blue tooth. The sena has enough volume but the sound quality is lacking with the 30 dB plugs.

These new plugs were originally designed for musicians allow fidelity but provide 15- 20 dB noise reduction, they have a shot stem and should be suitable when wearing a helmets. Cost approx. $20

Feedback appreciated

I have a set of their lower priced (ER20) and like them a lot. I don't use plugs too often, but liked these better than others I tried.

This is what I use.

Kap,

I think the new ones are basically the same but are shorter I.e better under a helmet. Do you wear a full helmet or half helmet? I use a full modular so I think will need the shorter version.
The problem with me and any any sort of plug is that placement of the helmet always dislodges the plug. If it moves just a little the sound deadening is decreased a lot. I've tried every style but will get a custom fitted one shortly which hopefully will be better.

I've got similar plus to the etymotic you linked (used by musos as they allow certain frequencies through) and the stalk always catches the helmet.

F99,

I wear a HJC SY MAXIII that has speaker pockets, as long as I am careful when putting the helmet on the plugs stay in place. The pockets are large enough you can move the helmet without the plugs being touched. That said my helmet is a snug (not tight) fit so there is little movement once it is on. I think a helmet without speaker pockets will be much more prone to causing issue with ear plugs
I got plugs like that to reduce wind noise. With the plugs in (I wear a half helmet), now all I can hear is the wind. I think the little stick that sticks out transfers the wind noise/vibration directly into my ear. Now I just use em for shooting.
