And the story: It was unusual sight to be sure, me walking into a showroom with my wife on one side and our newborn baby under our arm. Bikes tend to go the way of Ol' Yeller when kids come around, but I needed something that was going to make my commute around the California bay area more reasonable. So even though the salesman was apprehensive at first, as well as a little incredulous, it wasn't long before I was convinced that the Vulcan S would be a much better choice over the Rebel 500 for my FIRST bike. ?

Who knew that it would take less time to fall in love with riding than it took to get home? And not just riding, tinkering and upgrading early and often. It took a year, nearly to the date, to rack up my first 7600 miles, which have taken me not just between lanes to and from San Francisco, but on some of the most picturesque rides that Northern California has to offer. Its now loud and brash enough to look comfortable next to millenials on Sportsters and Triumphs, and has just enough oomph to keep up with our Ninja-riding brethren. Despite spending more time than is advisable in the triple digit speeds on lonely central valley roads, it's never spent time on the side of the road. Even though a good amount of its pegs have been ground onto the pavement in the twisties around Mt. Hamilton, it's never chucked me out of the saddle. There may be more bikes that I own down the road, but hot DAMN did Kawasaki make a good motorcycle. One that got me hooked on riding for life.

Yeah, I sticker bombed the interchangeable portion. It was opaque black anyways.
How about a picture of it :)

Unique stuff like that can really make a difference

(maybe some more shots of that bike..it looks really good. I like it.. but hard to really see it.)

Wheels: Stock, removed clear coating and paint, polished.
Accessories:
Removed lower rear fender, relocated license plate under fender, integrated LED turn signals under fender lip.
Removed all side reflectors (yeah, I know)
All lights converted to LED, head, blinker, everything - diode mod and electronic flasher included.
Clear rear break light lens and front turn lenses.
Baron front and rear pulley, rear pulley polished.
Break light modulator.
Polished radiator and regulator covers.
Baron tachometer.
Basic cheap bags on Easy Bracket locking system.
Cobra intake and FI controller (getting the ECU flashed and ditching the FI controller is next)

Purchased this bike in August 2017, didn't start adding mods until probably November of last year. Batwing will be installed before spring, but no other changes planned yet.

I had no plans to buy this bike, let alone a twin. I had just sold a 1985 Kawi ZL900 that I owned for about 15 year and that I had done a partial restoration on. It was a rocket to ride, but not any good for long trips. I was without a bike for about a month when I saw a CL ad for the Vulcan. The guy lived less than 1/2 mile from me so I went over to check it out. There were certain visual things I really liked - the drag style bars, the skinny front tire, the forward controls. Once I took it for a ride, I was sold. It was comfy (especially compared to my old Kawi), handled good, performance off the line was decent, and it was way more suited to longer trips than my old bike. It was a bike that I could enjoy without getting into trouble with. It was pretty clean, about 6k miles and priced right. My favorite part was the huge aftermarket support, something I didn't have with my old bike. I've probably spent more money on it than I should have, but making things my own is important. My theme for this bike it all black and chrome, no amber or red visible anywhere.

That's pretty much my story. This pic is from May, I installed the seat, rear pulley and have polished the rims since then, but I haven't taken any new pics.

That's a SWEET looking ride.. but your just teasing us with that single (OLD) picture.

How about some new ones?

I would love to, being being here in the PNW, riding season is all but done as the constant downpour and 40 degree temps make it too miserable for this old guy. If the weather cooperates, I will see what I can do when I get home.

That highway up to Johnson Ridge would be outstanding on a bike. The missus and I spent a few days camping down in Cougar and another couple of days in Toutle this last summer. I have a day ride planned for up there next spring/summer. Beautiful part of the state.

Okay, back to the bike contest....
