Does anyone know if the OEM ECU can be remapped to accomodate Vance and Hines Slash cut slip-on pipes? I am getting backfires and don't neessarily want to spend the money for a fuel commander.

Not by the average guy. When the recall came out for the engine stalling my dealer told me the defective ECU's were shipped back to Kawasaki to be reprogrammed.

The after market pipes don't have catalytic convertors in them. If you're getting back-firing, block off the air hose going to the AIS system. This system lets air in the exhaust to burn off any raw fuel for EPA concerns. Blocking it off stops the it from opening to let air in.
