I have heard good things about this backrest. I do not own it or have tried it, but I am thinking about it. Kawasaki - Protac Driver Backrest

 

Oops, never mind. I followed the links at that site to check out ordering, and found this, "Due to medical issues PROTAC has suspended production of Backrest, likely permanently. " Hope the person is okay. That is never a good statement.

 

Yes that is the backrest that I mentioned had stopped being produced. Thanks for trying in any case .

 

Try a Grasshopper. They are only about $80.00
They are nice and comfortable. I have one on my nomad.
The only downside to them is they are non adjustable. That is unless you own a vise.. Bent mine so that it fits me comfortably.

 

Sixth Gear, which one did you buy that worked with the 900? I just checked their website, Kawasaki - GRASSHOPPER LIMITED, and they don't list a 900 backrest, only other models. That appears well worth the price, if it fits the 900.

 

If you are going all in, you can get the Mustang Seat with backrest. I bought the mustang seat w/o the backrest, and now, 8 years on, kind of wish I would have sprung for the backrest model. I love my seat, just wish I would have spent the extra money earlier. I don't want to buy a whole second seat now.

I didn't check on the 900. I bought one for my Nomad.
They make them for a lot of different bikes, don't know why they wouldn't make one for the 900 as popular a bike as it is.

 

Yes the issue with the 900 is that the rider and pillon seats are one piece, still you'd think someone would make a backrest for the driver on a bike as popular as this one.

I emailed them regarding how that might work on an L T model with the bags. I'll let everyone know what they say.

 

Carolina on my Mind, have you checked with Protac? Since they stopped producing backrests on 5/13/2020 (less than 3 weeks ago), they might still have one for the VN900 classic in stock. An alternative would be to check if someone has a used Protac in good condition for sale on ebay. If a retailer sells them, they might have one in stock. I wouldn't give up looking just yet.

Added later: There is a company called "Utopia" that makes a driver seat backrest. It is for the stock seat only.

 

I did email Protac in early May regarding any excess inventory but received no reply back.

 

It's possible a retailer has one, or a used one in good condition on ebay. That's all I can think of.
