Sounds like you're shift linkage needs clean n lube. It's not returning to center. There's at least a couple of threads about this. Try a search. And happy New Year!
down shifting issue
900 custom never misses up shifting, down shifting and nothing is their, no resistance, shifter peg moves but nada, press a second time and it down shifts no problem.
I'm stumped, new and first problem with this 2013 900 custom. Any Ideas? does not happen every time. not consistenly one gear only.

Thanks for the direction, spent two hours on search earlier today but didn't what I was looking for.
