differences between 2002 fi and carb models

Last year I bought a 2002 classic 1500 carb equipped bike. I was wondering how well the 2002 1500 classic bikes were rated for overall riding. So I googled it and came across a write up from a magazine which yearly I think takes bikes from the top manufactures such as Harley Davidson, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and there may be others but I forget. I read the whole story how the riders take I think a 4 day ride and they switch off and ride all the bikes and at the end of the session they rate the bikes and to my surprise the 1500 meanstreak came in first overall the the 1500 classic FI came in second. I found it very pleasing.

My question to 1500 classic owners and riders. What are the main differences between the FI and carb bikes? Thanks for any comments.

Cruzin...let me apologize before I answer. I am so bored snowed in so you have to forgive me........ the answer to your to your questions is....wait for it......the carburetors.
Told you I am sorry.
I don't know all the differences, but a few are: frames, forks, fuel pumps, fuel tanks, indicator lights. Many of the parts don't interchange, besides just the induction system.
FI is supposedly more powerful, but in my limited experience, my carb model can leave my friends FI model, anywhere from off the line to top end. Two bikes hardly make a valid comparison, your mileage may differ. :)
Ok I'll ask if the differences of the frame, forks, and other differences make the one in the test a FI superior bike to ride over a carb model. I havent ridden mine only about 4 miles and have never ridden a FI so I dont know the difference even if there is a notable difference. Just asking if someone that has ridden both could give an opinion. And mine is a 2002 and only one carb to deal with. My honda has 2 and I know from working on those carbs it's not that fun to have 2. thanks.
If there were a carbed and an FI bike sitting side by side in the same condition, I would pick the FI every time.
Why would you pick the FI?

FI is trouble free.
If no ill-conceived mods have been done, it starts/runs, hot/cold, day in/day out, exactly the same...very well.

How about the ride and handling FI to carb?
Have never A/B'ed them, but then again, my riding skills probably are not sharp enough to tell the difference.

Even if the FI was worse in some way, still would choose it. Sorry carbed guys, but he asked.
If motorcycles used the same FI technology as cars, I'd be a big fan, but they don't. Their injection system is like the cars of thirty years ago, that is, open loop. All they do is run a pre-programmed map, as they lack the feed-back sensors necessary to make the constant adjustments to fuel and timing to insure top efficiency and performance under all conditions. I understand some of the later bikes actually do have the closed-loop systems like cars. If I ever buy a fuel injected bike, it will have to have that technology. In fact, when it becomes available, it may be enough to make me buy another bike.

Still way ahead of a metered leak!
I was hoping someone who has ridden both fi and carb 1500 around the year I have could give the results of the two. Like I posted before Ive only ridden it a bit over 4 miles and as far as I can tell its the best ridding and handling bike Ive ridden to date. Save a friends road king classic but that was 4 years ago and I would have to try them now again. I appreciate all the comments.

If I could do it all over again I'd have bought a FI. WAY less maintenance and less fussy with altitude or humidity changes. :D
