Daily Ride Thread

Another forum I'm on has a thread where you post your rides, pictures, videos, what have you so I thought I'd start one here. There's no specific parameters like length or reason. If you take a spin around town to try out those new pipes, or if you go on a day trip for a few hundred miles, post here and share your ride with others. I'll start it off.

Met up with Tylernol, another forum member from here in town and we went on a 9 hour ride on a mission to get something my wife wanted. She has a thing for cheesy little knick-knacks and saw this advertised at a chain of discount stores:

242799

Like I said, cheesy. The problem is that none of the stores in town had one and the nearest one that did was almost 2 hours away. Well, she does let me ride when I want, plus it was a nice day and I was looking for an excuse to go riding so I met up with Tylernol and off we went in search of the elusive tiki.

Of course, we took the scenic route and 3 hours later we found it in Fredericton NB. We stopped for lunch, then carried on back home - also taking a much more scenic route. After a stop to admire Mr Potato,

242800

we toured through Fundy National Park along some nice roads with several scenic vistas.

242801

A half hour from home one of the cheap driving lights I got last summer fell off so I just cut the wires.

242802

Got the part ordered to repair the original turn signal bar so hopefully I'll have that in a day or two.

Overall it was a great day. Made a new friend and got some great riding in. Hope to see more people add their own adventures to this thread!

I took a LONG ride today... Hours, not so much distance.
I started by trying to take the "back way" to Bosque Del Apache a wetland and national wildlife refuge. I don't have a mount for my phone, and got turned around looking for the White Sands Missile Range Route 9 road.

I finally got to Bosque Del Apache and took a couple hour ride through the wetland wilderness.

After leaving the refuge, I took back roads through the Cibola National Forest, the long way around, to get home. The map left an important detail out... I wound up on a 12 mile clay/dirt BIA road close to the end of my trip. I had planned another hour and a half, after that 12 miles. I hit the freeway and cut the trip to 30 minutes, home.

It got worse... I am embarrassed about what I put my 900 through with my impatience to get to pavement. I'm on the fence about posting the video snippet of the final bit of dirt "road."

The entire Bosque Del Apache is dirt roads, didn't have any issues there, they're well maintained, for the mountain lions.

I like the "report all lion sightings to refuge staff" like the staff isn't going to notice the vultures after you try to fight the mountain lion, like the sign says. (For those outside mountain lion country, you generally will only "sight" a mountain lion when that sign becomes relevant.)

I like the part of fighting back hard if attacked. That’s what my pew-pew for. To make sure the humans go home every night.

Had a great ride today with two friends on Harleys. One was riding a Street Glide and the other was on a Street Bob.

Met up with the 1st friend in Catlettsburg KY. Rode down to Louisa KY to meet the 2nd friend.

From there we let my Louisa friend take us on a route to the south that went through Inez, a stop in a location with wild horses where we got to see 5 very healthy and beautiful horses roaming free. They did not mind us at all. We continued on to Prestonsburg and got a burger at Dairy Cheer. The onion rings were great. Continued back north to Paintsville where we headed northwest to Sandy Hook. From there it was a short ride to Grayson and a hop back to Ashland.

I was able to listen to music for most of the trip through the adapter I purchased through Vulcantunes and the Bluetooth adapter I purchased through Amazon. Other members on this forum recommended the items I am using and I am very grateful to them. You can view that thread here: Searched Forum and am more confused than ever. Need...

I did lose music when my phone lost service.

We stopped a few times along the way and had a good conversation with a rider that is still riding his Harley at 79 and going strong. He had a tale for everything!

Good times!
Nice country out there. When I met my wife she lived in Whitesburg. You Guys were just north of there, I know the area well.

Good Morning! Today I'll be riding to Buda, TX to participate in the escort of the VietNam Traveling Memorial Wall along with the Patriot Guard and other organizations. It'll be set up in Kyle, TX. I'm particularly honored to do this as my wife's father, whom I never met, was killed in VietNam.

Here's a couple of pics. Great turnout with AmVets riding all the way from Dallas to participate. We rode from behind Cabela's in Buda and through downtown Kyle before arriving at the park for setup, which starts today. That truck driver did a great job getting that behemoth through Kyle's streets, which are narrow at best. Plenty of LEO's to block traffic. As a VietNam era vet myself, I got to lead the procession in front of the truck. No pics of that, though :(.

Decided I needed to ride to Gateway Cycles in Mt. Sterling KY to check on the status of my warranty claim on the lost antenna.

After taking care of some husbandly duties with my wifes car, I headed north on US23 out of Ashland KY. Rode 23 to the beginning of the AA Highway and headed towards Maysville.

Just before Maysville I turned south on 57 towards Mt. Carmel and Flemingsburg.

I tell ya what, that is beautiful rolling hill country. Very nice farms and homes, just absolutely beautiful. If I ever won the lottery, I may have to buy one of those big farms over there.

I did not meet or come up on any Amish Buggies, but there were warning signs that they may be on the road, so if you decide to ride it, be aware.

Downtown Flemingsburg is a very nice old style downtown and worth the ride through.

Arrived at Mt. Sterling and the dealership where I purchased my Voyager. They went and looked and the antenna is supposed to be in next week. I will be at the beach so it will have to wait until I get back.

I decided to take I64 back and had a nice cruise. The radio is enjoyable even at 80 mph.

Oh, I learned something too. This bike seems to get way better fuel mileage at 75 mph vs 80 mph. I wouldn't think that only 5 mph would make a huge difference but the fuel gauge predictor said otherwise. I wonder if it knows what it is talking about?

Anyway, excellent day for a ride. Temperatures in the low to mid 60's and the sun was shining in spite of the patchy clouds.

Have I told y'all lately how much I love my Voyager?

Today I'll be leading a small group to the Pioneer Flight Museum in Kingsbury. The ride itself isn't anything to brag about since it's mostly straight roads. Basically the ride is just the means to get there. East of I35 in Texas is typically flat until you get to the east Texas region where trees magically start to appear. Anyway, they're having their Wings and Wheels annual event that features old cars, old motorcycles, old planes, old anything. A pretty fun event I've been to a few times in the past. The main feature is for old planes to show up and show off after landing on the grass runway. Some pretty interesting stuff there.

This morning I rode to Plainview to have coffee with a friend. We haven’t had much time the past few months to get together so we made it happen today.

Along the way a photo op presented itself:

That’s fog, not dust as it might be.

Anyway I got in about 150 miles this morning.

We had a great ride to the Pioneer Flight Museum. This was my 4th trip and the 1st where the landing strip was dry enough for the planes to use it. Lot's of old planes flying in and out. Here's some pics.

Looks like a nice event with some cool vehicles. Where was this?

It's held in Kingsbury, about 20 miles southeast of San Marcos. They have it twice per year and the next one is November 11. Here's a link to their webpage: Pioneer Flight Museum – Kingsbury, Texas.

Took a good ride yesterday.

I took my wife her coffee that she forgot when she went to work (gotta get those bonus points guys!), and decided to head to Gallipolis Ohio for lunch, a Footlong Hotdog at Remo's.

So I jumped across the river at Ashland Kentucky and headed west towards Ironton. There was road construction and the dust from where they have been grinding up the old surface was horrible but I had no choice but to ride on.

I jumped off at the exit for 141 and headed north, er, northeast. This is a very nice road with lots of farms and pretty scenery. I then took the shortcut of 175 over to 141 and found myself in Amish Country. They have some really nice farms through there with big white buildings and no electricity. I only came up on one horse and buggy and gave it a wide berth in passing. I also did not rev my engine, not wanting to spook the horse.

I continued on to Gallipolis via 141 and found Romo's. It is right downtown near the park. This was the first time I had caught them open as they are closed on two of the days that I am off. But, it was well worth it. Very good Hot Dogs! Oh, and don't bring a Debit/Credit Card, they are Cash Only!

I decided to return to Ashland using a slightly different route.

I headed southwest on 7 leading out of town along the Ohio River Scenic Highway. I then took 218 up through the hills. I followed that route all the way to 217 which brought me back to the Ohio River Scenic Highway (Rt 7). From there it was a short hop on route 7 over to US52 and then I64 west back to my home.

Southern Ohio is very pretty on the backroads!

A very good ride for lunch if I do say so myself!

Three Patriot Guard rides today to present the keys to 3 wounded vets for new homes provided by Homes for our Troops. What a great reason to ride! I don't know how I'll be able to do all three since each of the presentations are only 2 hours apart, but I'll certainly try.
