Just my thoughts, If you put undo strain on a bike that's over ten years old and uses a rubber hose, It may need to be replaced! Just like brake hoses they begin to deteriorate fairly new and grow worse with age, There hoses are at least two layers of reinforced rubber, in time they begin to "swell" instead of carrying the pressure as they did when new, add higher rate clutch springs and what can I say, undue strain!
