So as I was doing some work on my 900 custom and broke the threads on my clutch cable...now do I have to replace the whole cable or can I fix it.

Most likely best to replace it. A few photos would help so we can see the extent of damage and where the damage is.

If it is only a few strands in a area that will not bind in the housing (at the lever) you may be able to clean the cable, snip the few broken strands, and apply a little epoxy to the cable so they will not continue to unravel.

They are not too expensive. Mine broke a couple of years ago, I think from being kinked when it was installed. I bought two so I would not have to wait if it happened again. Fair amount of work installing it though.

Order one from partzilla.com. They're cheep enough and less hassel than trying to fix it. I changed mine at about 50,000 miles. Didn't need to, just routine maintenance. I'll probable change it again when it turns 100k.
