I found a tach/dwell meter I forgot I had, and I want to use it to set the idle on my 900LT. Any clue as to where to hook the wires on the bike? It has two clamps, red and black...that's it.

{No, I don't recall the name brand; no, I don't know if it's an inductive type, but I doubt it; no, I don't have a photo of it yet, but later I will; no, I didn't use it before, it is part of a tune-up set}

Thanks for helping the bonehead again!

Those old dwell/tachs used the red terminal to +12v, and the black went to the distributor side of the coil. Don't know if you can make it work in your application, but probably not.:(
An inductive tach will work off of a plug wire, but these systems might be the type that fire the plug every revolution- if that's the case, then your RPM reading would be doubled. If your engine is idling at 2000 RPM, then that's the case.
