I have a 2007 kawasaki vulcan 900 classic for some reason it stoped on me. I change the battery it started i got to work but when i was ready to leave work, I got half way down the street it shut off it make a clicking noise on the left if your sitting on the bike there are three plugs that are plug into a black box were the noise is come from. I been told its the chargeing system is it possible to fix it myself. And what do I look for.Thanks george garcia

Have you checked the voltage while the bike is running? You likely have a short somewhere or the stator took a dump. Stator failure is common on the 900 and seems more prevalent on the 2007. I don't have my manual handy for checking the regulator and stator output. You may be able to find stator info by doing a search b/c I know I've posted the info before. If it's the stator it's not big deal to replace but your wallet will be significantly lighter.

If you have a multimeter:

(from the manual)
Charging System
Type Three-phase AC
Charging Voltage (Regulator/Rectifier Output Voltage) 14.2 ∼ 15.2 V
Alternator Output Voltage 54 V or more @4 000 r/min (rpm)
Stator Coil Resistance 0.11 ∼ 0.17 Ω

Alternator Inspection
There are three types of alternator failures: short, open
(lead burned out), or loss in rotor magnetism. A short or
open in one of the stator coil lead
[sic]will result in either a low
output, or no output at all. A loss in rotor magnetism, which
may be caused by dropping or hitting the alternator, by leaving
it near an electromagnetic field, or just by aging, will result
in low output....


If you're not getting 54V out of the alternator (and I suspect you aren't) I'd check the stator coils first - and inspect the regulator plug for moisture. Those will be the easiest checks.

(EDIT) If I'm not mistaken, you can check the stator coil resistances by removing the plug from the regulator. There should be three white wires terminating in the plug. The resistance from one white wire to any other white wire should be close to a dead short...(.11-.17-ohms). If I've got the charging circuit figured out, you'll also be able to mesure alternator output voltage at this point - by running the bike @ 4k RPM and measuring 54V between (all of) the white leads. It's a three phase system. You can also check for a short in the stator by measuring resistance from all of the white leads to the Chassis (ground). You should be WAO (wide A$$ open) from the stator leads to ground.
If your charging circuit is good to this point - your regulator might have gone to the great beyond...
