'05 800, I got a nail in rear tire, can I use an open-end box wrench on the axle nut or do I have to remove the pipes and use a 6 point socket? I don't really want to remove the pipes if I don't have to but I can't get a socket on with the pipes in the way

Strange question, actually. It does not matter what type of wrench is being used, until You can open any nut or open any nut without damaging it. If it's tightened with the corresponding force (trying to remember..., 98 Nm in service manual...) and threads are OK, You should not have any problem with an ordinary open wrench tools. By the way, I never had.
