Battery Charging

I have the YTX12bs and a 1.5 battery maintainer, designed to not over charge and to also do a float charge. The motorcycle sat for a week and was at 12.2 volts so I decided to charge it.

I was curious as to whether the statement on the battery "charge at 1.25 amps" matters by the 0.25 amp difference? I ask because the battery was making a sizzling/bubbling noise the entire time until it was fully charged.

The battery is a year and a half old.

Will make no difference.
A constant voltage charger will only maintain full current into a dead battery for a short amount of time. The current tapers down as the battery charges.
