I have a 2007 1600 Vulcan classic. When I purchased the bike it came with a cobra backrest for the passenger. My wife said that the backrest would make her back itch when we rode, even short trips. So I converted the backrest into a quick-attach mount. This however did not seem to help. So I was wondering if anyone has had similar issues and if so has anyone been able to come up with a solution? Any help would be great. Thank you.

My wife has been riding on the back with me since '09 and has never mentioned this problem. Have you tried making a sheep skin slip to slid over the back rest, that should allow for some air circulation. The one I put on my seat really helps from gettin' butt itch.

Is that to help it handle the weather elements better?
No, genuine sheepskin wool is cooler in the summer, and one's butt does not sweat nearly as much as with artificial and is and warmer in the winter. Artificial stuff is hot in summer, causes sweating and not all that helpful in the winter...I suspect cushioning will be better over time as well. I have experienced the artificial stuff flattening out really quickly.

As a parallel experience, wear heavy wool socks all year round...They keep my feet cool in the summer...

I once bought sheepskin car seats at Auto Zone or Advanced auto for about $30....the parts where the body touches, back, legs and butt were genuine sheepskin. The sides were artificial....I cut out a seat-sized chunk and used it for awhile with no complaints...Then I bought another bike and an Alaska Brand sheepskin came with it....Plush, thick, super comfy...
