So i am looking to replace the stock Dunlop tires and a friend is recommending Michelin Commander II. they don't make a 180/70-15 for the rear but they do make a 170/80-15. that's a narrower, taller tire, if I understand how the tire numbers work. Is there anything wrong with going this route? He says I will be fine, but I thought I would ask the more experienced here before I make a decision like this.

You'll be fine with that tire and it will help bring your speedo irregularities a little more into line.

I've had good performance from my Pirelli Night Dragons and you can go with the OEM size if you want. They also have a 170/80 as well as a 200/70. All will fit without any mods. A taller tire is a good way to go if you want to bring the revs down a little at highway speeds. The 200, to me just looks better under the rear fender than a 170 or 180. JMHO

Price and longevity. $86 for the front and $104 for the rear. $40 to change both (off the bike). And this is supposed to be a lot longer mileage tire than the Dunlops were. I only got 7500 out of the stock tires. would like to get a lot more than that. I have read good things about the metz 880 but he cant get these prices on those tires. I should also mention that I have the scootworks front pulley installed. would this affect the mounting of the taller tire???

I have the 170/80 in a Kenda Kruz. I like the taller tire without the cost of going to the 200; has helped reduce the rpm at speed (no longer looking for 6th gear), handles much better than the stock Dunnies, helped with the speedo error, for me has made the bike a much better bike. Even with the Scootwork pulley, you should be fine. So far, I have 6500 and the tires still look new, both ends.

I've used Michelin brand tires, but not this specific tire, on other bikes and have liked them, and I will use nothing but Michelin on my cagers.

Im running a parelli route 66 170/80 helped the speedo and the wallet, (motorcycle superstore) tire looks good rides good handles good never got cought in rain so dont know about that. on a 06 900 LT. tire looks good after 6000 miles, dulop was smooth at 6500.

Last cpl yrs used the dunlop 402s on my 05 800 classic. Got about twice the milage as the 404s but got a little pricy for my budget. 200 for the rear 140/90, 160 for the front 130/90. twice the milage is hard to argue with though. By the way, this is a Harley tire and has Harley on the sidewall. They are WWW tires and have the safety bead where the bead of the tire comes past the rim about a 1/4". Supposed to stay on the rim longer in case of flat while riding. That alone may be worth the price to some.
