Here we are standing in Rocky Fork Creek near Flag Pond, TN, south of Johnson City,TN.
After eating our traditional Vienna sausages in the creek, sitting on a boulder, we continued south towards Wolf Laurel, NC. Ran into an organized bicycle ride headed south on old highway 23, passed dozens of 'em.
BEAUTIFUL weather on the ride south, on the ride back the proverbial bottom fell out.
When we got home, we literally poured water out of our boots, it rained THAT hard. I'm sure more than one of you know how that works.

Riding those wet mountain roads, especially in driving rain has got to be a puckerin event where braking is all important on curvy downhill grades. Add in visibility problems and you can get a little claustrophobic, at least I do.

Beautiful country up there though. Planning a ride up there the end of summer.

How lucky was I. Left last Saturday headed to Pa for the rally. Rode the entire BRP, then the Sky Land, thru Shenandoah and on to Bedford, PA. We rode to Gettysburg, Flight 93 memorial, Johnstown flood site, and others. Saw two rain storms, one while eating a barbeque dinner, the other while inside drinking cold beer. Rode all the way home yesterday, non stop Pa to NC and not a drop.

Redfish, the wife was on her own bike today, got down to appx 10mph, as her glasses fogged up and the rain was that hard. I put my glasses in the tour bag and allowed the rain to bead blast my eyeballs. If you want to ride some BEAUTIFUL backroads, we know quite a few.

Bandit, we got all your "drops" FOR you ! And then some. Have you ridden NC 80 from end to end?

No, I have not been on 80. Did take 26 from Johnson City to Ashville yesterday and found that an enjoyable ride.

any idea about where you'd want to ride? We commute / live between rural MS and east TN
Per GPS, from Sweetwater to Cherokee (didn't care for the casino that much), it took us on the "Tail of The Dragon" road, and it was raining - one reason I always take a paper map along these days. From there to Ashville area and south to Spartansburg, then home to Fl. I couldn't name the roads but it was the first time my wife had ever been on a mountain road. But that was by vehicle.

I've heard the Cherohala hiway was good but I'm sure you can name many more.

Bandit, if you ever want to ride all the backroads you can SEE from the interstate, that's exactly where we're riding.

Redfish, we'd love to ride with you on the Cherohala, ridden it many times, lots of others in east TN
