Re: Intake Air Temperature Sensor Relocation

Is anyone still strongly advocating this mod? Are there any long-term adverse effects?

I was going to do the mod when I had a BAK and noticed that performance dropped significantly as soon as the sensor became heat soaked...probably because it was then mounted on the BAK's aluminum backing plate which became a heat sink!

However, I returned to the stock air box and put the sensor back in the original location. In the stock air box there does not seem to be such a drastic drop in performance when the bike gets warm. More noticeable, though, is the increase in decel burble when the bike is warm. I get no burble or popping until this time.

Is this because the ECU is retarding timing based on the temp sensor readings? If so, has anyone noticed a reduction in decel burble or popping after relocating the sensor?

I have a Bully/EJK, but this does not allow any timing adjustment. If the ECU on the 1700 truly shuts off fuel when the throttle is totally closed, it would seem that the only fix for some decel popping might be a timing adjustment.
I'm hoping that the air temp sensor relocation might accomplish this. What are your thoughts?

I installed a fan switch like Racn Ray had posted. The bike never looses power now. Road in 90 degree temps in traffic. The highest the temp guage goes is barely above half. It used to go way up there and have power loss. I am running stock air box and Kams kit installed. My heat problem has been eliminated !

I appreciate the input, but the Air Temp Sensor in question is located in the right side air box and relates to the temperature of the air charge entering the throttle body. Based on it's readings, it is my understanding that the ECU then adjusts the A/F ratio (like a choke on a cold engine) and may affect ignition timing. It is not associated with engine overheating or coolant temperature.

I was just saying I have no problems now with retarted ignition timing now that the fan can be turned on and keep the temp guage down below half way. Maybe ray will chime in and help you out.
