Hello, I've been tearing down my recently purchased 97 500 and Im not quite sure what it is. 1/4" hose that comes off the bottom of the air box Into a round clear housing. Then into another 1/4" hose to a plastic fitting at the end. And in the clear housing there's oil in it. Is that normal? Sorry I don't have a repair manual yet and my other bikes never had this.

I did do that but all it is says about it is "breather"

But you are correct. Those exploded views are fantastic.

I'm not sure from the description, but it sounds like you're describing an airbox drain. Many motorcycles have these. Oil and gas can accumulate in the airbox - most older bikes have a tube you have to unplug and drain, others it's just a drip tube. If it *is* an open drip tube, BE SURE it's nowhere where oily gunk can drip on the rear tire.

Pictures would help immensely.
