Just out of curiosity, do you find the stock shocks a problem? I have limited experience, but they are quite a bit better than were the shocks on my 900.

I changed out the oil for heavier weight in both my Nomad (1500) and in my Voyager. Neither really ever felt good with the OEM shocks, no matter what I did. So now my Voyager has a set of Öhlins shocks (entry level model HD146) on the back, and some Race Tech springs and emulators up front.

Night & day difference... When he was behind me, my riding buddy used to be able to see me hit a bump & brace himself - now he has no idea when there's one coming.

There are other well used options, from manufacturers like Progressive or Works Performance. Use the search feature on this and other forums to find out exactly what others are doing - or do what I did and take your bike to a suspension specialist to put something good together.

I thought I'd get away with just doing the shocks. But after I had them done, the smooth ride back there only amplified the shortcomings up front. I was back at the shop counter only two weeks later to have that seen to as well.

I have Works performance Steel Trackers with ARS. Call them and you get custom built shocks to your weight and riding habits. Absolutely night-and-day improvement in ride and handling, but it will hi-lite how crappy your front suspension is!

Right side seems to have leaked some oil out while sitting for a few weeks.
Looking at options
Once they leak, there's little option but replacement. Check it's not leaking from the Schrader valve first, but it's usually the seals, and those are not replaceable. It's not worth replacing them with OEM either unless you find a used set for a reasonable price. New price is incredible.

No one who has ever replaced the OEM shocks with aftermarket ones has ever complained about them (unless they simply picked the wrong model), and it's certainly nice not to ever have to worry about air-pressure in them. I have mine set for two-up touring with baggage, but the ride when I'm one-up without any other weight on board is still heaps better than the air-shocks ever were, so I just leave them set where they are, all the time.

Garry's given you the Works Performance details, and you have the Öhlins details from me... I believe that most who go with Progressive get the 412HD model, particularly if you ride with much weight on board? There's little gain from the models above that to justify the extra expense. You would need to confirm there's one available to fit your bike, and whatever you put on there will likely need to be shimmed out in some way to fit without binding.
