Accident

How many of you riders have had someone decide to backup into you at a stop sign to let a big truck turn. For the second time in 10 yrs it happened to me and I stopped well behind him. I laid on the horn but he never heard it ( weak horn) blew the fender off and dented the fork cover scratched the fork also. He called the police but they wouldn;t come out because there was no injury. They did send a tow truck which wasn,t needed but helped get his truck off my front tire he charge the guy $100 for the call. The guy was a former Vulcan owner so he followed me to the dealer and they gave him a $1550 estimate for repairs. Waiting for the parts June 5 is the estimated time line, 1 inch over and the trailer hitch would have missed the fork. So I have been driving around for over a week with no front fender.

1. Thanks goodness he was a former Vulcan owner and sympathized with you for the damage he caused.
2. You might look into getting an air horn. Specifically because of this accident, I think I can now justify getting one.
3. Without a front fender (at least for a while), I wouldn't ride in the rain. Not sure i would ride over gravel either (radiator).
4. Hope the repairs go well.

In spite of what some folks say about if you need a loud horn, it's already too late, there are times they are helpful.
This brings ups an interesting discussion I had recently, I try to always pull up behind a stopped vehicle so that I am visible in the driver's side view mirror believing I am more likely to be seen. Trucks have gotten so big that even my stock F150 vehicles can disappear in my rearview mirror so that I can not tell they are back there.

This^. And in getting to where the driver ahead of you can see you in their mirrors, you have an escape route around the vehicle, a decision made as you approach them at the light, stop sign, whatever. Choose left or right depending on which escape route seems the best. Also useful when a car is coming up fast behind you, about to accordion you to the vehicle in front.
Had a friend backed over by a box truck (he was in the middle of the lane). There was recently a Goldwing that was backed over - and the driver is a youtube . . . Goldwing personality.

All good advice I have been staying to one side since it happened and way back also.
Drivers checking their mirrors / aware of the surroundings? So many of'em I see have their face down in their phone.

It's been 3 weeks since the front fork and fender were ordered. How long would you think it should take coming from kawasaki. Getting a little worried that the part's will be forever.

aint it the truth

Sorry, that really sucs, gotta say like some here when possible I try to make sure the car ahead can see me. Also always change horns out to something loud. Had it happen to me once I was able to sneak out to the cars left side ended up on the side of the guy face to face, I was not happy he seemed shocked. Stay safe and good luck 🍀
