ABS Brake Conversion

2094 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Big Mike
Hi, 1st post. I got a 2009 Vulcan 1700 Classic. Being my first bike in about 30 years & having someone literally standing there - ready to buy it if I didn't put a deposit down, I neglected to see that it didn't have ABS brakes. That wouldn't have been a deal breaker I guess, but I really wish it had them.

So my question is, whats involved in converting them over? Is it practical? Can someone provide a link to a site for parts?

I tried a search here on the forum, but after several pages, I didn't see anything that was helpful.

Any & all help is greatly appreciated! :)

I believe most systems, if not all, are run through the computer, so you would need the sensors and related parts, plus the pump/pumps, plumbing, and harness'. Probably at least a couple thousand dollars. May just be better off riding this one for awhile and buy a bike that already has it. I'm no expert, so I could be wrong. May also be able to buy a salvage bike that has everything you can install on your, plus have other spare parts.
I don't suppose you'll get much riding in western MA for the next couple months but wouldn't be surprised if when the time comes you forget all about ABS. Good luck with the investigation though, and welcome back to riding after such a long break. Sounds like a fantastic bike you got.
Change the brake fluids if not done already. Just bought my 2009 wth 2000 miles and the brakes felt soft. Changed the fluids and much improved. The fluid goes bad over time and not just miles i found out. Land vehicle Motorcycle Vehicle Headlamp Automotive tire
