I'm looking for highway bars for my 900 LT classic, anyone out there have any good suggestions? I'm also looking for a good luggage rack.

There are several hiway bars....the M/C, Cobra, and OEM from Kawasaki. The Kawasaki products are WAY overpriced. You can buy the Cobra for almost $100 less and it's just as good. HOWEVER.....if you plan on adding a light bar later on, be advised the Kawasaki light bar WILL NOT WORK with the Cobra hiway bars. This is a good thing though, cuz Kawasaki wants almost $160 MORE (MSRP) for their bar than you can purchase a Cobra for. But there are some who will want to stick to Kawasaki parts. If that's the case, their hiway bars are designed to work with their light bar. The difference between the Cobra/Kawasaki light bars is the positioning of the turn signals. Cobra uses the stock turn signals from your bike. Kawasaki includes a new set of signals that stick straight down and will bang into the Cobra hiway bar but not into the Kawi bar. I have the Cobra hiway and light bar on my 900 LT.

highway bars

I put the M/C bars on today and they look good and feel like they bolted up pretty tight. The one problem on mine is that I have the kuryakyn flame floorboard covers and they stick out past the bars so if the bikes falls it will hit the floorboard first but that's OK.

This isn't a great picture of the guards but you can get an idea.

Highway bars, and horns

For my '07 Vulcan 900 LT I looked at highway bars on Kawasaki, Ebay, Cobra, and other suppliers' web sites. I noticed that the clamps which secure the bars to the bike frame differ a lot, with the cheaper bars generally having cheap looking clamps. The Kawi bar is pricey so I finally got the Cobra setup, a bit less expensive but with good looking powder coated clamps and it's wide enough to protect even the stock footboards. It bolts right up and the chrome plating looks very substantial. Other posters have noted problems with various bars. With the Cobra bar the horn has to be relocated onto the bar, and it sounds very anemic there. I tried playing with the tone screw on the horn, but finally decided to get a Wolo Bad Boy compact air horn. I mounted that on the highway bar with a Kuryakin chrome P clamp. Since a horn relay is needed with the Wolo and is included with it I mounted that on the Cobra bar where the original horn was supposed to be. The Wolo definitely will get someone's attention!

Hiway Bar

I agree with jimbo. I installed a Cobra hiway bar and lightbar on my 900lt. Everything fit perfect and the chrome radiator cover went on without any interferance from the bar.

Well I'm getting the Cobra highway today so I guess I'm got the whole horn relocation to deal with, huh? Didn't count on that, but I appreciate the heads up. Also I see now that I'll have to buy the Cobra light bar instead of the Kawi. I like the Kawi better but the Cobra will be fine. I wish I'd found this thread before today! I'm reading all of them to catch myself up.

No horn relocate needed

When you mount the Cobra bar, just remove the horn temporarily, and once the bar is mounted up against the frame, the horn goes back to its original location

I'm also looking at Highway Bars and a Light Bar for the Classic LT I bought recently. The cheapest I've found the OEM Light Bar is $315 delivered. That's $85 more than the Cobra. I like the looks of the OEM Light Bar with the Turn signals hanging below. But I also like the looks of the Cobra Fatty Highway Bar. It's a shame you can't use the OEM Light Bar with the Cobra Highway Bar.

Hmmmm. This sux. I'm glad I found this thread before I screwed up though. I'm getting ready to put a deposit on an 09 Classic LT (dealer won't have any more for 30 days), and was going to buy the Kawasaki light bar and the Cobra crash bar. I REALLLLLLY like the look of the Kawasaki light bar, but now I've got to make another stinking decision.
