Hi, 2003 vulcan 750. 2 part question.(maybe both parts are related?)
One: Had bike 4 years and ever since I've had it, once air temp goes below 60, bike is harder to start until by 50 degrees it won't start without ether. I have verified that choke is closing fully.Last week with air temp about 50, it wouldn't even start on ether.

Two: This summer, bike began to occasionally backfire(loud) when starting it fully warmed up. The other day when it wouldn't start cold, was backfiring too which it's never done before.

What's happening????? Thanks

I'd check to make sure all of the rubber boots around the carbs are positioned correctly and clamped securely. Could be an air leak wither at the boots where the carbs mount to the cylinders, or the ones hat go p into the black plastic surge box above the carbs.

What about your air filters? Is the foam in good condition on both air boxes? They should be oiled, but not too heavily.

If you head over to www.vn750.com you might get a more in depth answer there. lots of knowledgeable folks there that may be able to give more specific help.
