I was putting a new connector together for the rectifier for my 1994 vulcan 1500 when I touched the white power wire to the blk/yellow ground wire, now the starter won't engage. Shorted the solenoid leads and it cranks, but when I hit the starter button the fuel pump makes a buzzing noise but that is all that happens.Wire map tells me the white wire goes to the starter relay, junction box and ignition switch,so I'm trying to figure out what I fried. Also what does the diode to? It looks to control the puel pump, but disconnected the pump still works.

I figured it out and lucked out - I traced the wires from the starter switch all the way to the Starter relay,it was a bad connection on the junction box connector wire leading to the relay.
