1993 Vulcan 1500 did not come with a tach. So I got 1 off of ebay, have it installed except for the engine signal. I was planning to just use the negative side of 1 of the coils as the engine signal but now I am thinking that won't work, not sure. Does anybody know where I should get the engine signal? I'm afraid to try as I do not want to hurt the ignition box. Thanks

What does the manual for the tach say? If I remember correctly the last universal tach I used had the signal wire wrapped around a spark plug wire at the coil, and did not tap directly into the coil or ignition box.

That said, I cant see attaching to the ground wire hurting the ignition box, so long as you make sure it there is no current coming from the tach into that line.

I bought the cheapest tach on ebay and it came with no instructions so I have no idea if it is set up for dual fire. But I didn't know there was such a thing as dual fire! Guess I might have to buy a better tach. Thanks
