  1. Where Does Everyone Purchase Their Maintenance Products? Oil, Oil/Air Filters, Spark Plugs, Brake Pads, Battery, Fluids, Etc.

    General Vulcan Talk
There can be good prices to be had eBay, just watch out for counterfeit items. Dunno how prevalent that sort of thing might be with MC parts but, in one of my other hobbies, electronics of a sort, there are plenty of fake/counterfeit parts to avoid.
  2. Where Does Everyone Purchase Their Maintenance Products? Oil, Oil/Air Filters, Spark Plugs, Brake Pads, Battery, Fluids, Etc.

    General Vulcan Talk
Usually I try to make a bundle of a number of oil filters, air filters, plugs, etc., what I think I will need over the next year or two. Usually that alone or maybe plus a few odds and ends is enough to get OEM parts at online prices with free shipping. It's a chunk up front but the per piece...
  3. What to Tell the Mechanic

    Vulcan 800
If the unit was hydro locked, generally, it would not turn over at all, regardless of the battery (well, unless something broke). If anything, a strong battery would just increase the odds of damaging something if the starter was engaged on a hydro locked engine. I would tell the mechanic the...
  4. online tire recommendations?

    Vulcan 900
Dennis Kirk was mentioned. It's close for me so I try to buy there. Last set they price matched. I had to show them a legit link to the price to beat, they took a look, then beat it by $1.
  5. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
Damn... disregarding a best practice given by Yuasa themselves. Frankly though, I'm not surprised. Disappointed, maybe a little, LOL, but not really surprised.
  6. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
I feel like we've been through this at least once or twice already. When Yuasa information says (quoted verbatim, I added bold) "Colder storage temperatures are best for long-term storage.", what other conclusion are you drawing? Best for what, if not the overall state of the battery? If it is...
  7. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
I don't know enough about the gate system other than the generalities I already mentioned. And, yes, the self-discharge curves are not intended to longevity. Their only point is to support that cold storage is better for the battery than warm storage. I make no specific life projections for...
  8. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
Indeed. Batteries can fail with little warning. I had similar occurrence with the battery in my truck a year or two back. Started fine in the morning, was a slight hesitation at Noon ( go home for lunch every day), when it was time to go back to work it cranked once then click-click-click, no...
  9. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
It certainly could be the temps your gate battery is exposed to, but it's not cold temps, unless it's not staying charged and is freezing. It could also be the nature of the charging...too much, too little, etc. The example of UPS batteries isn't really the same as a battery in a pure storage...
  10. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
It's your bike and your battery. Do as thou will. (and, yes, it gets cold here too. I believe -35F was the low for this past winter and double digits below zero are common). But, you've asked my opinion so here it is... The very high level is because I believe cold storage is better and...
  11. Poll: How Do You Feel About Loud Pipes?

    Vulcan Forums News
I have V&H Powershots on my VN2K. They are pretty loud when you're giving it the jam, but not too loud just cruising. Louder than stock for sure though even at idle. They have more of a throaty tone. I don't like the loud, tinny rap some pipes give.
  12. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
I had much more planned for this but, since Yuasa is cited as an accepted source of expertise, I'll simply rely on them to confirm the fact cold storage is better. The first sentence below should be 'nough said, but the two sentences following that clearly illustrate the point.
  13. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
Hey Du-Ron, thanks for posting that. Not the response you were expecting, I'd wager. An actual technical tidbit in a one of the bullet points clearly supports what I've said about cold storage vs warm (or heaven forbid hot storage). Can you guess which point it is? At the moment I'm heading...
  14. Any issues with removing the battery over the winter (in storage)?

    Vulcan 900
Their information on battery storage is actually not optimal. But, it's probably easier for them to put it that way because it largely parallels common beliefs, rather than trying to swim upstream, so to speak, and deal with reeducation.
  15. Draining a lot of battery when starting

    Vulcan 900
If those are AC volts measurements it would seem (at least) a new stator is in order.
  16. New Float needles

    Vulcan 500
So you're saying the aftermarket float needles are nice, but don't actually fit properly like the OEM parts fit?
  17. My float needles are short? Strange story!

    Vulcan 500
Indeed. Sounds like some "will fit" parts that don't really fit. :) I wouldn't be grinding anything to make it work. Get the correct parts.
  18. Draining a lot of battery when starting

    Vulcan 900
No. Stator is tested between the leads, not to ground. So, if there are three leads, say A, B, and C. You check A to B, B to C, and A to C. Personally, I'd probably just check the AC voltage output. I don't trust low ohms readings on most meters. You should immediately try to find a Kawasaki...
  19. Draining a lot of battery when starting

    Vulcan 900
    Doesn't appear to be charging.
  20. Draining a lot of battery when starting

    Vulcan 900
Your symptoms suggest to me the charging system is not working as expected, or the battery is bad/defective and not capable of holding much beyond a surface charge. Have you confirmed all the connections are clean and tight? Have you measured the standing battery voltage, the charging voltage...
