Big Helmets

Does anyone know of a helmet that fits really big heads? I currently have a 5X Zox Sierra SVS open face, but I would like to get a modular. All the ones that I have tried on are fine around the head, but my chin is pushed up on the bar.

HJC IS-Max 2 & CL-Max 2 both go up to 5x. I wouldn't go by just the labeled size alone. One company's XL is another's 2X. Even different models from the same manufacturer can differ. I.e. I'm an XL in HJC FG-17, but a 2X in the HJC RPHA 11 Pro. Measure your head circumference from just above your eyebrows. Take the measurement and compare it to the manufacturer's suggested size for the model you are looking at.

Sounds like your issue is more shape than sizing.

Hope you find the right fit, TurtleBoy4329...as you well know, that's vitally important.

Exhibit A for wearing your helmet...especially when you're going "Ludicrous" speed...

Ask Jay Leno, if he has a helmet that clears his chin then it should work for anyone. I don't have any experience with the modular helmets but Bell full face XL is the only brand out of the ones that I've tried that I don't have any chin clearance issues with.

Sounds like you need a long oval helmet ("Narrow" in the article). I wear one myself, an Arai Signet Q. But they don't go up to 5X. The data on this link is a little old, but it'll point you in the right direction.

I am starting out this summer on my first bike since I was younger. Finding a helmet has been an adventure. I tried several of the 5X (IS-Max 2 & CL-Max 2) full from HJC and others as well as a few 3X 3/4 from GMAX and HJC; none of them fit. One store here did have an Aria 2X but that was a no go. The HJC 5X models would fit my head but not close on my chin. The *only* helmet I've found so far to fit was the Bell Custom 500 3/4 2XL. It isn't exactly what I wanted but works for now. I guess the differentiating factor with the Bell is that the Custom 500 actually has 5 shell sizes. Other helmets have 2 or 3 shell sizes and use padding to get to their different sizings.

I returned the Custom 500; it sits too high for me and way too much of the great gazoo look... I found a Daytona Cruiser 4XL which fits about the same as the Custom 500 but sits much lower and has a lower profile. Seems to do the job for now. Sizes up to 2XL are Snell rated, no luck on the 4XL, but at least it fits.
