You know the old saw "you get what you pay for." Bilt helmets are not premium. That said, I think they are decent helmets for the price. If you want the best protection or a quieter helmet, you will have to pay a lot more. The only issue I have with them is that they don't work for me. I have a slightly more oval head and I think they must be made for round heads. I have never found one that felt comfortable for me.
As to gloves, I look for palm and knuckle protection. Otherwise, for summer, I look for a decent amount of mesh and for cold weather, plenty of wicking and insulation. If those criteria are met, comfort is the next and most important criteria for me. Speaking of which, my old summer gloves need replacing. CycleGear, here I come!
