Question for Bell Pit Boss Wearers

I know many of you on these forums are wearing this helmet and I'm hoping one of you will help me out. I'm looking for a good quality half-helmet that will fit in my 6 inch wide saddlebags. The bags are plenty long and deep enough...but only 6 inches (exactly) wide (interior).

Think the pit boss will fit?

The nearest dealer is about 60 miles away and I don't want to waste a trip. I tried e-mailing the question to Jafrum and Leatherup...they just tell me they "don't have the exact dimensions" (bailed).

Thanks!

Can you call that dealer and ask them to measure it for you?

Don't bother calling Bell. They are useless. Their products might be good but I asked them where I could touch and feel one of their helmets and they could not tell me where. I asked "You mean you don't know where you ship your product to". They said no. Great Customer service.

I have been looking at replacing my Skid Lid with one of these or the drifter. I like the idea of the bicycle/hard hat adjuster in them. I am gonna follow this one to see what all may get said about them.

I have one in Medium. It measures right at 7.5" from the very top to the bottom when laying down and it is 9" from side to side. Of course front to back is even longer. Hope this helps!

I know with a lot of helmet manufacturers will have 2 or 3 different sized shells. For example, xs-l use a smaller shell and XL-XXXL have a larger shell. Might want to check in to that before you take the measurements to heart.

If the dealer 60 miles away has one in stock they should be able to measure it for you. Unless that is bell themselves and not some other dealer.

A phone call doesn't hurt to make and could even save you a trip.

Well I sucked it up and went to the dealer yesterday and tried several makes of half helmets...both on my head and in my saddlebags. None would fit my bags. Soooo close.

The Pit Boss is a very nice helmet, as well it should be at $129.00. It's also very light. Fit: my head measures exactly 22-7/8 inches after a haircut. The medium was just plain too tight, even considering break-in. The large I could make fit nicely front to back with the adjustment wheel, but the side-to-side just didn't feel right. Finish: very nice, but the white was just not the white I was looking for.

I wound up buying the GMax GM65 naked, matte white. The fit (medium) was just too right to pass up. The sun shield needs to be a little lower but for me it is useable. I couldn't tell any difference between the weight of this helmet and that of the Pit Boss size large. For me (in my size), I didn't feel the shroom look was any worse than the Bell. If you wear a size large or larger and the sun shield is important you should try it on before you decide.
