Hello from Ontario, Canada

New member here from Ontario, Canada. I've been riding for a while now, about 7 years. I've had lots of different bikes in that time.. 4 x Suzuki Vstrom, ST1300, Concours 1400, DRZ400S, Ninja 500. Never a cruiser though.

I have a 2018 Vstrom 1000 that I absolutely love but my wife misses the Concours and ST1300 for 2up riding. We went to a bike show and she loves the Kawasaki Voyager, I didn't care for the styling though and big fairing. During my research I came across the Nomad 1700 which had all of the features we wanted. Hard bike to find around here, at least for the 1700's with KACT ABS and cruise anyways. A local dealer had a low mileage 2014 just come in on trade and I pick it up tomorrow, very excited!

We will be taking it on a tour of the Gaspe Peninsula this June. A buddy and I are riding the Blue Ridge Parkway and the dragon in May and i'm tempted to take the new bike, but the V-Strom is probably the better bike for that trip.

The Blue Ridge Parkway, and Pisgah National Forest are absolutely breathtaking. We just love that part of the country. Endless m/c paradise.
The first time I rode Deal's Gap, was 2-up on a 1500 GoldWing. I loved it, but when it says, "10 mph turn", consider it. With over 311 curves, you also might strongly consider TAKING THE V-STROM! Since I was on an 800 lb. bike, with " Wifey" on back, I was a slow-poke, but we still had a ball! (Yes, you can scrape the sole of your boot, if it hangs off the peg of a GoldWing-I know!)
Regulars on that ride can be fearless! Scratches on the asphalt, and wreck sites abound. Seems like every other rider has old scratch marks on their helmets and leathers! You know to be ready for the tighter turns, when you hear a sport bike, out-of-sight just ahead of you, with its engine absolutely screaming!
The whole ride is memorable, to say the least. Enjoy.

The buddy coming with me on the ride is on a Vaquero so i'm tempted to take the Nomad. Partly because it's new haha. I've heard a lot of stories about that road, i'm not an overly aggressive rider so I am sure I will be fine It's just such an iconic road that I have to ride it at least once

Welcome to the forums!

Please fill in your profile to include your bike/location info and that
is easier using a PC vs the app. This will help others answer questions you may ask knowing what year and model bike you have.
