clutch needs adjustment ??

vulcan 800 classic had a new air cleaner installed and rear tire installed and did a couple of test runs down the driveway but now when its into 1st gear and the clutch is released it is almost like its in 2nd gear, and i have to rev up the gas and release the clutch very slowly to get it to let it engage. any idea what to check out first?

one thing i had new clutch and brake levers put on by the same shop that did the rear tire install, but they said it was fine when it left there shop...

thanks

1. When you try to get rolling, does the engine cough, sputter or?
2. Once underway, is everything normal?

One other thing, if I turn the handlebars straight and use the adjustment nut and wheel on the clutch handle and lever mount to make the lever get into that tension spot that feel right, then if I turn the handle bars to the left the cable seems to get tight or stretched and the lever tension becomes very tight...

So you are saying that it seems like it is in second gear to start off, but it really is not?
Also, on the handlebar issue, it could be that the clutch cable is routed incorrectly and catching on something that is making it stretch.

Yea kinda, I put it into 1st and then let off the clutch, it does engage, but it feels like I have to give it more and more gas to take off and into 2nd. The clutch cable has never been replaced only the lever was replaced, so is there a way to set the adjustment back to stock or something?

The thing with the cable being tight when the bars are turned to the left, even if I get the clutch lever adjusted in the middle if i turn them to the left the lever goes very tight then back to loose when there straighten up, that has never happened before so I know the cable is out of adjustment someplace

Update: I think I found out what it might be, one of the things we done to the bike other than air filter, was new mirrors and new clutch and brake levers, and i think when the clutch lever mounting pice was loosened to get the new lever on it was pushed to close to the grip and that was what pulled all the slack out of the clutch cable. I loosened it up moved it over about 2 or inches and it loosened up.i also put new spark plugs in and I did a test run and it seem to be ok. Grabbed my helmet and went around the block a few times and it seemed ok. I still have to fix the air filter problem but I will take 1 problem orver 3 anytime.

Thanks for everyone's help
