running lean

2005 800 Classic; under acceleration it starts running out of fuel; I can pull choke and it picks back up and goes. stop using choke and again starts running out of fuel. I first thought stopped up fuel filter and located part numbers and pictures online. Just a simple inline with 1/4 or 5/16 ends. After searching bike I discovered no fuel filter. I checked my Kawasaki service manual and there is not one in site.
Has anyone had this issue and if so what was the prognosis? I'm considering removing and cleaning the tank, hoses etc.

This is my first post and I will appreciate any thoughts.

Hi!
1) Check the fuel tank petcock. Turn it to Primary and test it.
2) When did You last clean the carburetor?

If pulling choke helps, that means that gas is there, just not getting through main circuit.
If the carb was starving, choke would not help.

How many miles on it?
How long since the valves were checked?

Garage
I would also check the vacuum hoses. My bike did this and come to find out I had cracks in the hoses.

approximately 18,000, I've not had the valves adjustment checked; it does run quite with no engine noise such. It was not operated much over the past 2 years, drove it maybe once a month for short distances.
