Vacuum sealing petcock trash switch to manual

Ok so i have a 05 800 and was having problems with it getting fuel the filter wouldnt fill back up so id "run out of gas" so id pull over and would have to swith it to pri so it would work. After it got to where my bike wasn't getting fuel at all i flipped through different post on here and looked at countless videos on YouTube and through some careful fiddling and blind guessing i figuerd the vacuum release on the oem petcock wasent releaseing. I took the petcock apart a few times to clean it and decided to take out the vacuum sealing part and put it back on my tank. And vuola it leaked a crap ton of gas. So i fumbled through some more post and watched more videos and saw one saying you could use a suzuki lt80 manual gravity feed petcock it fits perfect. Looking at the petcocks on there i saw that it is exactly like the one on my big Bear that i already purchased a few month back. So i decided to give it a shot along with useing more hose and a better filter it works amazingly. So to make a long storry short switch to a manual petcock with a shutoff valve it will help you out in the long run.

the '05 800 already comes stock with a manual petcock with a shutoff valve, so I don't understand what you have done or working with, and what's with the filter? is that something you added?

The petcock that was on the bike worked of a vacuum that ran from the side of it to a vacuum pump in the carb and only had on pri and res no off position on the switch. The air filter was on the bike when i bought it along with other pictures ive seen and vidoes ive watched with them. So unless its common for people o put those on there then im guessing it comes with it.

Sounds like this is one of the 'upgrades' made in the 800 series. I have a 2000 vn800B and it also has a vacuum fed petcock (Run-Pri-Res) I'm not sure what year they stopped using that style petcock but it sounds like they did on the 2005's. They may have been testing the new petcock on the 2005 800's before making it standard on the first year of the 900's in 2006.

Anyone else have an 800 from 2001-2004 with a gravity fed petcock?
