cam chain adjustment

My son has a 96 vulcan 800n 20xxx on the clock it has started to get a small ticking noise what is the procedure for adjusting the cam chain tensioners are they manual or self adjusting it looks like there are 2 plugs on the cylinders where you could pull out to inspect but im not sure. he does not have a service manual if someone could point us in the right direction it would be appreciated

They are self adjusting. I'm thinking the caps are for access to the tensioner springs, and that the adjusters comes out from the inside.

Have the valve actuator ("lifter") clearances ever been checked?

Link to how its done. The rear cover removal and installation is the hardest part.
