A few general questions

Ok, I have had my Vaquero since last December, it has about 1200 miles on it. I have been trying to put more miles on it and get used to it a bit more but have been having terrible weather here in Oklahoma city as you all know. Some things i have noticed now is the front brake making a grinding noise after riding and braking and feels like it might be dragging a bit. Rotors are nice and smooth. Is there a micro switch that the throttle activates when twisting it? You can here a little electrical click even when riding. The next one really is starting to itch at me and that is the rubbing noises of the plastics around the fairing, and the saddle bags. Pulled the bags off last night and saw where the paint is rubbing off. Is there any recall on any of this?? Also does anybody feel the bike moves alot on the freeway?? Sorry so many questions but I really like this bike but want to get some issues worked out. Thanks!

I've got a 2011 Vaq.

My front pads will sometimes make noise. I wouldn't really describe it as a grinding noise - like the metal on metal you hear when the pads are way past needing to be replaced - but it's obnoxious none the less when it happens. I've had success with using brake cleaner. I yield to the opinion of other more knowledgeable though.

I haven't noticed a click when rolling the throttle.

I haven't noticed the rubbing noises.

The Vaquero was the first bike I've ever ridden that had a fairing on it. I did notice when it was windy out that I had the sensation that the wind was catching the fairing and moving me around a bit more than I was used to. Frankly, I don't really notice it anymore. In fact, I'm extremely happy with how the bike handles on the freeway.

There is most likely just dirt or fine debris in the brake pads and nothing to worry about. As far as the throttle noise I haven't heard any on mine. I really don't notice any rubbing noises although some people have had the chrome panel on the tank start to rattle where it wraps around the front (top) of the tank and they have put thin rubber or foam trim under it. I don't know what part of the paint on the saddlebag is rubbing off as there should be rubber bushings installed on the mounting points. I do notice the bike is a little twitchy and does catch the wind a bit more than my last bike which only had a windshield, but that is to be expected a certain amount with a full fairing/lowers, etc. Some people install louder pipes to mask all the little noises, but end up with one much louder noise

There appear to be two types of "electric type clicking" from under the tank.

1) The injectors make a faint clicking which you cannot do anything about.

But the real culprit is this...

2) The AIR Injection Solenoid Clicks whenever you roll off the throttle.
To date, no-one makes a complete kit to eliminate this excess plumbing related to the PAIR or REED Valves. You can plug the air intake to the solenoid thereby blocking the AIR Injection System, but the solenoid will continue to click.
You can apparently remove the solenoid, but it will then throw an engine code unless you bridge the two wires that feed the solenoid with a specific capacity resistor. I have yet to get brave enough to try this mod so I have learned to live with this infernal clicking.

I don't believe there's a recall, but I took mine to the dealer and showed them the paint rubbing off the bag and that plastic "filler" (piece that fills the gap between the fender and saddlebag), and they replaced both of them under warranty. By the way, is yours rubbing only on the left bag? Design flaw, if you ask me. The dealer will not know how to fix this. If you remove the bag and look at the mounting bracket, see where the bracket bolts to the fender just below the antenna. I removed this bolt and put a thick washer between the bracket and fender, then replaced the bolt. This separated the saddlebag from the fender enough so that the bag no longer touches the fender "gap filler". The dealer's "plan" to remedy this was to glue a piece of rubber hose to the inside of the knob on the bottom of the saddlebag, to force the bag away from the fender. But the bracket, which holds the bag in place, was still in the same place. My fix worked; theirs did not.

My Voyager makes a click noise when coming on and off the throttle so i would say its normal. Have 19000 on mine in 13 months.

Talked to RacnRay this afternoon (ordered the throttle kit) he thinks it might be the relay for the cruise control. Did a nice fix on the plastics rubbing. Went to local autozone and picked up a pack of clear door edge protectors, one set did both sides perfectly. Slid them on the filler piece that was touching the fender. Looks like they were made for it. No more squeking or rubbing. They also have black that could be used on the black models. The clear on my green was almost translucent

Yes the air injection solenoid (sounds like a relay kicking in) CLICKS when you roll off the throttle. First thing I noticed when I got it. Since I have no other ticks or rattles I have really noticed it....

I've read elsewhere that there is a quiet recall concerning the left saddlebag rubbing.

Although I didn't notice sounds from there, I had my plastic bib hydrodipped and put a leather tank bib under it. Certainly no sounds from there now! I'm guessing that my FF helmet kills a lot of the noise out.

Ray said that when he replaced the louvers with the driving lights, he had fewer issues with wind pushing him around. I still have the louvers, and the bike feels perfectly stable to me. Knock on wood, but so far I have not experienced a lot of the problems that others have had.

The OEM brake pads will glaze and then chatter if you lightly use them. I occasionally have to make a hard stop to break the glaze. When I wear the OEM pads out, I will replace with pads that don't have this problem.

When I had my tires replaced, they discovered that the belt guard had been installed incorrectly and was rubbing the belt, and the belt had rubbed a slot completely through the plastic! I had heard that sound, but was never able to isolate it. You may want to look at that as well.

Oh, riding a 2011 Vaquero, less than a year on it and already over 11k.

Thanks for this. That makes perfect sense.
