The only thing missing?

I would like to go on some long trips next summer to places I have never been before, so it would be very helpful to have gps navigation.
I have a Garmin unit from a previous car but would need a bracket to attach it to the handlebars of a Voyager in a position where it is readily visible.

I assume some of the cellphone brackets advertised would work for this purpose, but seeing the screen in direct sunlight may be a problem.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Note: If you look at my profile you will see I own a Versys 1000: I hope to get a Voyager next year as I want a touring bike. The Voyager is the ONLY touring bike in my price range and seems like a great value for money, 95% of the bike for 70% of the money!

Ram Mount makes a bunch of different cradles for Garmin GPS devices. I found one for mine, and I use it daily. I never have issues seeing it in the daylight due to the matte finish of the screen. And you can set the brightness of the device.

ram mount

I have the Ram Mount ball inbetween the handlebar risers on my vaquero. then I have the appropriate cradle for my Garmin Nuvi 255W gps.I also hard wired the power cable into the 12 volt outlet wires inside the fairing. I purchased every thing from GPSCITY.CA and they are in calgary alberta so there prices are in cdn. where I have mine mounted I can adjust it so I can still see my radio and have access to the ignition key. if the weather get wet, I just put a ziplock bag over it or just remove it from the cradle and put it in my pocket. go to the web site I mentioned and type in your model number. they have every thing.

I have a TomTom Rider 400 now, so rain is not a problem, but I previously used a car TomTom. I got an AquaBox RAM mount so I could use it in the rain. Not sure where to find those now. I also had a sun glare shield called GlareStomper. Just type that in to look for them on Amazon. It is textile, so it can fit a variety of GPS units, you just have to get one that is the right size. I actually put it over the Aquabox, when I was using that, but now have it on the Rider.

Installed:
RAM mount for TomTom Rider 400 (with anti theft module)
6000k LED Headlight & Spots; Kisan Headlight Modulator (works with LEDs),
__Brake Light Modulator, LED License Plate Holder
Longer Kickstand
Dobeck EJK 3.0
Lucky Mirror Extenders
Misc. RAM Mounts for Cup Holder, SPOT, Phone, etc.
Chuckster BAK, Trailer Hitch and Cooler Rack
Wiring for Trailer
Ray's Throttle Mod
Things to do:
Drilling Baffle Plates (Maybe)
Paint HF Tag Along Trailer to Match Bike

LET'S RIDE

I have the same ball set up and also modified my gps to play through the speakers so being able to see the screen isn't necessary and i also mounted a siriusxm radio to gps back and have that mounted most of the time on the ball. Only remove it when i need the gps.

I use an OLD Garmin meant for cars mounted on a RAM setup. Sometimes the sun will outshine the screen so you can never completely prevent that short of building a box that almost completely encloses it to keep the sun out.

I don't worry about it as in a few moments the bike will change attitude in relation to the sun and I can see it again.

The voice that it emits it plenty loud enough for me to hear at any speed.

When this Garmin finally craps out I'll replace it with a 7" wide screen unit as my eyes aren't as good at focusing on the small numbers/letters as they used to be.

I bought a Garmin 395LM for my Vaquero. It came with mounts, but none of them fit the handlebars of the bike, so I rigged it up around the right mirror mount. The U bolt goes around the base of the mirror and I tightened down the plate to it. Then, it's got a snap-in mount made for it.

I initially ran the power wire under the tank trim panel to the battery, but after my accident, my mechanic rewired it to get power from somewhere inside the fairing, cleaning it up quite a bit. Now if only I'd asked him to hook up the sound
