1700 Classic vs. 1500 Classic

I started with an 04 800 Classic and later upgraded to an 04 1500 Classic, which I love by the way. The 04 1500 Classic is getting a little older and I have an opportunity to pick up a good condition used 2012 1700 Classic.

One of the big reasons is fuel injection and just wanting something a little newer. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking out for, if anything and also, is it worth switching to the 1700?

Thanks for any advice or tips you can share!

Maybe wiring harness under tank ,love my nad, looked at a 1700 classic,Really thought about it,nice bike, like the 6 speed, not sure if classic has cruise, barely use it,classic gives a little more room in cockpit compared to nomad or voy,I would upgrade if a good deal and the bike fits ya imo

In addition to the Ignition Wiring Harness Recall Issue (as suggested above), you may need to deal with the following typical issues, unless the previous owner already addressed them...

1) Stock Seat Sucks...First thing I did was get a Mustang.

2) Stock Throttle Actuation Sucks...Second thing I did was get a reprofiled/recammed throttle tube from RACNRAY (search this site!) It smooths out the throttle, improves low speed control, and brings on the power band sooner with less wrist action...Major Improvement!

3) Drive Belt is Potentially Noisy if not adjusted to proper tension and alignment (simple fix).

4) Stock ECU Sucks...The stock A/F ratio is way too lean and the ECU retards the timing as soon as the engine is warm...then you have a significant drop in power.
If I still had the bike the next thing on my list would have been the IVAN's ECU reflash. It addresses the timing issues and a multitude of other adjustments to make the bike perform the way it should have from the factory! These bikes are also known for generating prodigious amounts of heat and enriching the A/F ratio with the ECU reflash should help in this regard.

5) If it has been sitting for any period of time, check each and every coolant connection and clamp...you will need to remove the tank to do so, but believe me, it will save you a lot of grief...

Other than those few issues, my 2009 Vulcan 1700 Classic LT was actually a pretty good bike...
