Exhaust mods questions

I have asked voyager owners how they feel about the newer voyagers as I am so close to buying one,I can taste it.

I understand the issues so I am sure I will do Ivans flash and install slip on exhaust to get the benefits the flash will provide but really don't like the loud pipes.

Just how loud are vance & hines or cobra slip ons ?

I have a 900 classic with cobra pipes and after an hour or so they are killing my hearing.......or what little I have left.

To those of you who have done the flash, will it run much better with just ivans flash & stock exhaust or will I need to install slip ons to get and benefit, and if so which ones are louder...seems there are only a couple to pick from, cobra, freedom, vance.

Again, not looking for the noise BUT another thought is the pipes are longer and exit far in the rear so maybe I won't hear them from drivers position ?

Your thoughts ?

No flash here, stock bike, but drilled out the last baffles and a K&N aircleaner. In my opinion sound is nice, not too loud (especially for our german TÜV).

Had a test ride with a bike equipped with the Vance & Hines slashcut pipes and can tell you, the best sounding pipes I have heard on a voyager/vaquero, BUT the are loud. Perhaps to loud according to your describtion of what you would like.

I ride "Ivanized" 2015 Voyager...
After tons of research and YouTube videos I have purchased the V&H pipes...
What @Demolition Man said... they sound AWESOME, but it was kind of the same thing for me... after couple of hours of riding they become "too loud" for my liking.
In the end I ended up selling them and now riding with stock pipes.

I called IVAN......they told me I can get the flash for stock pipes and stock air intake and drive-ability issue will improve, just not as much power increase unless I go with intake and pipe replace.

I think I'll try the keeping everything stock with flash........if I have any issues that drive me crazy I'll deal with it at that time.

All I need to do is sign the papers and buy the bike.....

thanks for the info

Jerry, I ride my 900 classic LT with ear plugs ( cobra slash downs ) and my ears still ring after a LONG ride, say 3-4 hrs......even with a 3/4 helmet and wearing ear plugs.

Short rides are Ok but the longer rides,I wear ear plugs but even then on a long ride my head is buzzing after I remove the ear plugs, for the best part of an hour or so. My hearing is already damaged from years of playing drums in rock bands, shooting pistol with out hearing protection, you know, real smart things like that,,, when I was young and knew everything.

Now,I need to guard what little hearing I have left at age 62.

So, I will be trading my older goldwing for a fresh new bike and the voyager is on top of a very short list even though I have heard about some throttle issues, heat from exhaust on legs and no power in overdrive-6th gear.......I have been told the IVAN's flash corrects these issues and makes it more fun to drive with less heat. So,if I purchase a voyager I will need the flash but don't want the noise,I'd rather sneak around on the tour bike and if I want a little noise I can ride the 900 as I plan to keep it,at least for a while to see if I really love the voyager..........

Can't afford a new wing nor a new yamaha trans continental package, nor a new harley so with my limited funds, its a new voyage or a lightly used harley ultra classic with under 7000 miles.......right now I'm leaning toward a new bike, not used so voyager is the only thing in my price range and the dealer will give me more money for my trade than the other dealers,so the money I need to put out is less.......that harley does look good.......but / I'd rather buy new with a 2 yr warranty. My 2016 900 classic never gave me any trouble so I assume the same with a new voyager.

Earplugs ? Why buying a Voyager with radio/music/navigation speech via speakers and putting earplugs on due to a loud exhaust ?

That was one reason for leaving the stock pipes on for me, too.
BUT, if it would be legal here to put on the Vance & Hince, I would do it, just beacuse the awesome sound.

I find the mechanical/wind/tire/road noise enough.
ear plugs yes, on long rides.

I always wear earplugs. Friend of mine lost his hearing from wind and road noise. Not willing to risk that. Custom made ones work wonders.

I'm also hoping to get a Voyager soon, and am aware big air kits factor can add considerably to the noise level. I like the Chuckster's kit that allows you to retain the stock cover, but does anyone know how it compares to the other BAKs noise level-wise? Besides preferring the look of the stock cover BAK, I'm hoping it would be less noisy than open style ones and thereby "free up" a few decibels so I could consider some V&H slip-ons without getting too noisy.
