Question engine cover trim chrome

I am hoping to talk to other riders that have installed K53020-382 kawasaki engine cover trim chrome to replace the cheap looking black plastic that is installed from the factory. My parts guy says it comes with spacers and longer bolts to accomodate going over the black plastic and the black plastic does not get removed. Has anyone else replaced the black plastic piece with the chrome piece only. I don't know if there is chrome underneath or not. The whole idea of getting the chrome piece was to get rid of the black plastic so everything looks chrome. Any opinions and or pics would be really appreciated. Once I take the piece it is basically mine as with restocking and other fees if I take it back it is not worth it. Thanks

I think your parts guy has a training need. The chrome engine cover trim REPLACES the black plastic trim.

If you take the cover off yourself, you'll see what's underneath - it's only 4 bolts.

Your Parts Man is nuts, the black comes off and the chrome fits better than the black.

Thanks Guys: My parts guy is probably in parts for a reason. Not hands on. Thanks for the information. I thought the black one should just come off and be replaced with the chrome one but when he said it wouldn't it kind of freaked me since my shed still has too much snow yet to get into see my bike. Thanks for the help and information.
