Changing oil filter

Just changed oil filter and noticed wires runnng over the back/top of the filter. What is the purpose of these wires? I noticed wire was nicked and had to tape it.

To provide 12 volts to an electrical component on the bike.

Trace it and see, or look it up in the service manual. That is what I would do if I wanted to know.

I thought I was going to read a question about the oil filter when I clicked on the thread, so I felt like not totally wasting my time by responding capriciously.

There is a 3 wire plug top outside from filter. The middle gray wire goes to the oil sending unit, not sure were the other 2 go. There is a larger harness over the filter that has the wiring for the rectifiers.
