Replace Speedo Cable

The speedo cable on my 1997 vulcan 500 just snapped. I need to replace it but I have no idea how to.
Anybody can help and tell me how do I replace it?
I know how to remove the tire apart as I have already changed the fork oil and seals not too long ago.
Thanks for any help.

the best tjing to do is to get a manual online here . you could probly find one for free to download you just have to ask around. it will tell you step by step procedure on that kind of stuff

Thanks, I will try doing that.
I just wanted to know form people around here how complicated of a job it is to replace the speedo cable.
My guess is that it's a simple enough job, but I could be totally wrong.

I have the following book about kavasaki vulcan 250-500.
It doesn't cover the speedometer replacement surprisingly.

I had mine replaced in only 30min-1h by the shop under warranty. So I guess it is fairly easy.

My only concern would be that there is a little piece remaining in the "connector" on the wheel side. It's a sort of little ball that rotates or something. Not sure how you take it out. It was my case.

Otherwise, I am pretty sure it is just "plug and play" once you remove the top panel.

I talked to my local Kawasaki dealer, he ordered the cable for me and said that it's something I can do in 5 minutes flat.
Just unscrew it on both ends, then screw the new cable into place, and you are done.
Best thing is that it only costs $19, including tax.

pretty easy

It is pretty easy. Just unsrew it form the wheel. Look carefully at how it is routed up to the speedometer. It also unscrews from the speedo. To lube just unscrew from the speedo and lubricate.
