checking idle rpm ??

How are you guys checking your rpms at idle with out a tach?? I have been searching for this and have not come up with a good answer. One was to set it with a volt meter on the battery to 13.8v. Another was to use an inductive tachometer but you have to multiply by 2.

What are you guys using who don't have tachs installed??

I think a lot of people just set it by ear. I think somebody - maybe Romans5.8 - had a video of the 900 set at ~1000 rpm idle for people to use. It's not that hard to set it pretty close by ear.
