Tank emblem adhesive??

I need to replace the gas tank emblems on my 900 Classic.
Anyone have recommendations for an adhesive?

I see a 3M product, a double sided acrylic tape, is that is what's used?

Here's the 3M description:

3Mô Pressure Sensitive Acrylic Foam Tape 5344, Gray, 45 mil Printer-friendly format

Additional Information

3Mô Pressure Sensitive Acrylic Foam Tape 5344 is a medium-density foam tape providing a balance of conformability and strength. The acrylic foam core has unique viscoelastic properties that allow it to elongate and relax when put under load, thereby minimizing stress on the adhesive bond line. This tape has AR-7 adhesive on the liner side of the product for bonding to automotive paint surfaces. DS-4 adhesive is used on the non-liner side of this product for bonding to the exterior trim part. Typical applications include automotive body side moldings.

They (3M) offer these tapes in various thicknessses...or is there some other type of adhesive that's commonly used? What is the OEM goop??

Thanks in advance...

3M tape is what you need. CLEAN off any old adhesive left on tank and emblem. Goop off, Mineral spirits, rub with you thumb until you get blisters. But get it clean, Wipe with alcohol and put tape on emblem. Trim tape around emblem with sharp knife or exacto blade. Some people will dry fit, leave covering on tank side of tape. Position the emblem on tank where you want it and looks level. Put a couple pieces of masking tape on top of it. On the top of emblem so you can lift it up and peel off protective covering and put back on tank. Stop by a body shop and see if they will sell you a foot or two of the stuff. You won't need a whole roll.

Is there a preferred thickness? That stuff comes in a variety of thicknesses.

The stuff I used in body repairs is around 1/16th or so thick. It does come in different widths. From around 1/4 to 3/4. If you need wider just put another strip down. Most body shops would have it in 1/2 and 3/4. Or a parts house would likely get some for you, but you don't need a roll 20 ft. long or better.
