need help asap

hey guys well it hit 50 today in pa so i decided to go out for a little ride, rode for about an hour or so, came home parked my bike in the driveway, wiped her down (just dusted it).... had it turned off for about 2 hours went to go back out for a little spin. Soon as i start the bike and try and put in first gear the bike stalls out, litterally soon as you click down on the shifter it stalls out, it will idle fine, just wont stay running in gear

any help would be appreciated

My new 1500 does that unless I work the clutch a few times...common. Check your fluid level. (clutch)

Sounds like some type of malfunctioning safety device. I would start with the kickstand switch. See if it is unplugged or something simple first. Good luck.

Mine does the same thing every once in a while... I toggle the kickstand a little and it always works. I need to get in there and fix the switch, but it's mid 40's all this week...

06Vulcan, giving more thought to your problem...it may be the clutch interlock switch. To know for sure try starting your bike in gear with the clutch in..if it don't turn over then the switch is bad. If it lunges ahead then your problem might be than your clutch isn't disengaging.

A problem with the side stand switch guys would only be if it stalled when the clutch was let out. This problem occurs when 06Vulcan first puts the bike in gear.

Just a question! ReddyFord said to check the clutch fluid level. I have an 08 -900 and I was under the impression that the clutch was lubricated by the same oil as the engine oil. Is it separate, and if so, where do I check it? Thanks in advance for your response.

I noticed you said it's cold out. When you put it in gear and it stalls out, does it lunge forward? If it lunges, I'll tell you why. In cold weather, the clutch plates stick together and the colder it is, the more they stick. Start bike in neutral, let get warm. Hit kill switch to stop motor, pull clutch, put bike in 1st gear, rock bike forward and backward. When you do, you'll eventually hear and feel clutch plates unstick and bike will roll freely while clutch pulled in. Put back in neutral, return kill switch to start, start bike. Now when put in 1st it shouldn't stall or lunge forward because clutch plates are no longer stuck together. Hope this may help. Knees in the breeze!!
