Rear tire

What is the widest back tire that can be put on the VN900 using the stock rim? I know about the belt gard limiting the size so forget about the belt gard.

Thanks

Belt guard doesn't limit tire size. I think anything over a 240 motorcycle tire requires surgery. I don't pay much attention since the 200 is about as big as I'm going for playing in the twisties. Don't know about how big you can go if you go to the darkside.

230 is the widest you can go, but you'll have to modify the mudgaurd and lower belt gaurd.

Here's the tire most guys go with and what I'll be ordering this spring.

One side note on the 230 tire. In my opinion it looks weird. Looks like a big chocolate donut on a motorcycle rim.

Here's the difference between the stock 170 and the Avon 230 mounted on the stock rim.

(I think you can figure out which one is which)

I believe my 2009 stock is a Dunlop 180/70 which is about the same size as Dunlops 170/80. Strange that Dunlop does not carry the 180 in their catalog. I'll probably just go to a Metzler 880 180/70 when I replace. I briefly considered the Metzler 200 width or darkside Altimax HP but probably will not change whats working unless I get tired of yearly tire replacements.

Stock rim?

Did I read that right? that is the stock rim? Was there any mods required? any rubbing issues? what is the exact tire size?

I almost spent $1700 on a fat tire kit.....

That is a 230 on the stock wheel, fits with very little mods, i think the only thing that rubs is the inner mud flap. I took mine completley out but some just trim them.
I think the 230 is the biggest 15" tire thats is made or at least that i have found. I wouldent go any bigger on a stock wheel even if there was one.

I have seen a 250 under a 900 but the had to do some grinding on the swing arm to make it fit.
