Well after much anticipation my 900 custom was delivered today. It looks really great with the cafe windshield, engine guards, and lightbar. But there seems to be an issue when shifting from neutral to first. It dies.
1. Turn ignition on.
2. Confirm neutral.
3. Fully pull in clutch.
4. Fully pull in front brake.
5. Retract the kickstand.
6. Start the cycle.
7. Nod to my wife like I'm a badass.
8. Idle for 2 or 3 minutes or until the side of the engine gets warm.
9. Shift into first. Engine immediately dies.
10. Avoid eye contact with my wife. Pretend I don't hear the snicker.
Now interestingly enough if the bike is on a slight incline (like the driveway), it doesn't seem to die. But on a flat street or in a flat garage I experience this behavior 9/10 times. The bike has 10 miles on it, of which I put 0 miles on it.
I found some other threads that suggested the following:
-- clutch tensioning adjustment
-- Kickstand sensor
-- Idle speed adjustment
Do you guys have any ideas on how to narrow down the issue? I am not really mechanical. Off hand though I wouldn't think it's the clutch adjustment...logically it would seem like the bike would try to jump then die if there was a clutch adjustment issue. But the bike just dies.
Maybe it just needs to be run and broken in. Have to learn how to ride though.
Thanks for the help.
